SILENT

Silent pianos and silent grand pianos

The perfect solution for silent real piano playing via headphones

With our silent instruments, you will always experience the authentic feel of a real acoustic upright or grand piano. The integrated high-quality silent systems, also known colloquially as the mute function, allow you to play the piano without being heard by your surroundings and expand your options with useful digital features. And you too can practise undisturbed, without hearing any noise from outside or being disturbed yourself.

Simply explained:

A sophisticated optical sensor scans every key movement with the utmost precision and transmits the game to the digital module in real time. The retractable touch screen on some models can be conveniently operated from above. Functions and additional features enrich and support practicing and playing at any time of day or night.

YAMAHA SILENT SH3 and SC3

High-quality silent systems for upright and grand pianos

Always in harmony with you

Do you love the sound and feel of an acoustic upright or grand piano? But do you also want the flexibility to play whenever inspiration strikes?

Whether early in the morning or late at night. No problem. Now you can play wherever and whenever you want. Simply connect headphones or speakers to enjoy the authentic experience of an acoustic piano, but with full control over the outward volume.

YAMAHA introduced the first SILENT piano in 1993 and since then has continued to improve the muting functionality of Silent technology. Certainly one of the world's best silent technologies that we can responsibly recommend.

Yamaha_U1_SH2_Silent_Module

The Yamaha CFX's elaborate binaural sampling and precise sensors, which capture every nuance of the playing in detail, create the unmistakable feel of an acoustic piano - even when played through headphones.

SH3

In addition to powerful muting functionality, the SH3 system offers 20 integrated sounds, Bluetooth and a MIDI connection.

SC3

In addition to powerful muting functionality, the SC3 system also has 10 integrated sounds and a built-in metronome.

How does Yamaha's SILENT Piano technology work?

When the SILENT function is activated, the hammers no longer hit the strings.

Instead Sophisticated sensor technology* records every key movement and sends this information to a digital sound generator. The sound of the flagship concert grand pianos YAMAHA CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial can then be heard via headphones in the form of binaural samples of the highest quality.

* The unique key sensors continuously capture key movements for precise mapping of inspired playing. These key sensors are equipped with an advanced grayscale system that continuously captures even the smallest movements and subtlest nuances of the pianist's playing. This allows note repetitions and trills to be reproduced accurately and faithfully. The sensors are contactless and therefore do not affect the playing feel.

How to explain *Binaural Sampling

YAMAHA CFX Binaural Sampling produces a natural, room-filling sound that makes you forget you're wearing headphones.

Combined with VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling) to authentically reproduce the incomparable resonance of an acoustic piano, this technology allows you to fully experience the natural sound of a piano - without being disturbed by the outside world.

Binaural sampling is an elaborate recording method in which special microphones are placed exactly at the position of the ears. This specifically improves the listening experience with headphones.

High-quality sound via headphones

The YAMAHA CFX concert grand is characterized by a wide range of timbres, from crystal-clear trebles to powerful basses. The Bösendorfer Imperial grand piano delivers a "Viennese sound" full of sophistication and warmth.

These two world-famous concert grand pianos are the flagships among a wide range of instruments whose sounds are available - as well as electric pianos, harpsichords and organs.

With the Smart Pianist app, you can select the different tones directly from your smart device.

C. BECHSTEIN Digital

Future ready. More than a silent system.

Hand in hand with your acoustic upright & grand piano

The new digital system by C. BECHSTEIN enhances your acoustic instrument with digital components. Play your upright or grand piano silently and listen to the sound through headphones, use all the modern digital features and share them with your loved ones and friends.

The BECHSTEIN digital system is a holistically developed digital system that appreciates the natural sound and musical expression of your acoustic instrument and expands it to be "future ready". With the "VARIO Digital System" and "C. Bechstein CONNECT Pro", you can easily add numerous digital applications to this foundation.

In all new instruments from C. Bechstein, as well as W. Hoffmann Tradition and Professional has been the basic system ex works since 2024 C. Bechstein Connect pre-installed. This means that upgrades to C. Bechstein CONNECT Pro and VARIO Duet are now easier and more affordable than ever before.

VARIO DUET - Silent System

The VARIO duet with premium mute function

The VARIO duet complements your acoustic upright or grand piano with a unique muting system without compromising on playing style or sound.

Switch to quiet mode and enjoy the playback of the VARIO duet undisturbed via headphones at any time. The premium stop bar ensures that the hammers are intercepted precisely just before the strings - so that your acoustic instrument no longer emits any sound via the strings and soundboard.

The familiar feel of your piano is retained.

Simple operation

Simple operation with just one button. The integrated USB Type-C interface offers state-of-the-art connectivity and also charges the connected devices at high speed.

Hammer stop bar

The bar stops the hammers just before the strings and the acoustic piano falls silent. The natural playing style and precise touch are retained.

The VARIO app

With the free VARIO app, you can adjust parameters such as reverb algorithms, touch dynamics and piano sounds to suit your individual needs. Or simply record your piano playing and music and share the recordings with family, friends and piano teachers. A digital metronome can be switched on and is easy on the environment.

Connect your smartphone, tablet or notebook via Bluetooth or USB-C to play with creative apps the way you want.

A masterpiece in terms of sound

With the VARIO duet, you can enjoy the same sound from your piano that you would expect from your C. BECHSTEIN family instrument - only through headphones.

The technology behind this sound is called sampling. With the Digital Grand - the studio sound library for professional users - this technology has been taken to a new level.

C. Bechstein CONNECT

Digitally expanded with ease

The C. Bechstein CONNECT expands the possibilities of your acoustic upright and grand pianos with the appropriate connection to digital devices.

Sensor technology

Under the keyboard, the newly developed sensor system detects the finest nuances in the movements of the keys. The sensor system works optically and therefore contactlessly, i.e. without affecting playability or the playing experience.

The speed at which all buttons are measured, analyzed and evaluated is so high that more than 200,000 data points are processed per second.

The sensor signals are translated by the VARIO into the MIDI standard. In this way, data about the key played, the note or pitch, together with dynamic information - velocity - is transmitted to any third-party software.

MIDI via Bluetooth

Via Bluetooth - LE MIDI = Vario connect, or USB-C = VARIO connect+ and VARIO duet - the data is transmitted to connected third-party devices in the industry-wide compatible MIDI format. Particularly fast implementations of the MIDI standard via Bluetooth are used, so no special drivers are required.

Simply connect your smartphone, tablet or notebook to your piano via Bluetooth.

With BLE-MIDI (MIDI over Bluetooth Low Energy) you can discover the world of music with creative apps for learning, playing and composing, directly on your acoustic upright and grand piano.

Possible applications

  • Music productions
  • Music notation
  • Digital music lessons
  • Software instruments

FEURICH Silencer

No more annoyed neighbors

With the "Real Touch Silencer System" developed by FEURICH, you can mute your instrument completely and listen to the sound through headphones. This means that nothing stands in the way of undisturbed playing pleasure - even at night.

The instrument can be played completely silently using the mute mode and the sound can be heard through headphones.

The Silencer system is the perfect silent solution for all FEURICH upright and grand pianos and is also suitable for retrofitting in almost all models from other manufacturers.

How the Feurich Silencer System works

  • Switch on, put on your headphones and start playing
  • A small mechanism prevents the hammers from striking the strings
  • An optical sensor records the button movements in real time
  • A digital module outputs the sound via headphones

Versatile sound library

The module provides numerous timbres - in addition to the original concert grand piano sound, there are also electric pianos, harpsichord, organ and strings, among others

MIDI interface

The device has MIDI or USB outputs to connect the game to computers, tablets or audio interfaces. This makes composing, arranging or recording in professional studios child's play

Practice with metronome and recording function

A built-in metronome supports practicing in time. It is also possible to record your own playing and then play it back to improve, share or save it for compositions.

Practice quietly with headphones

Via the headphone output, playing is barely perceptible to the environment, while the pianist continues to hear the full sound of a real instrument.
