W. HOFFMANN *The story

A long tradition & success story with a past and a future.

The W.HOFFMANN brand was founded by Wilhelmine Sophia Friederike Hoffmann in Berlin in 1904. It was the founding period, the heyday of German piano making, in which hundreds of brands were created because playing the piano was simply part of life. The production of these highly successful W.HOFFMANN instruments has continued in Europe ever since.

After the Berlin location, production was relocated to Middle Franconia in 1950, as skilled workers were scarce in divided Berlin. On a 42,000 m² site in Langlau, a team of 160 specialists built grand pianos and upright pianos in this upper mid-range category from the best materials with great piano-making expertise.

Despite the market turmoil, W.HOFFMANN's fortunes were bright, because while so many brands went under or were sold to Asia, the W.Hoffmann production facilities were taken over by the top manufacturer C. BECHSTEIN Berlin in 1991. As part of the concentration on the new Bechstein factory outside Berlin, W.HOFFMANN production was relocated to Seifhennersdorf/Saxony in 1992.

The piano market - increasingly competitive on a global scale - demands constant adjustments and reactions. In 2008, C. BECHSTEIN founded the Bechstein Europe production facility in Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic as a European subsidiary of what is now the most important European piano manufacturer in Seifhennersdorf/Germany.

The new location for W.HOFFMANN in Hradec Králové itself has a long tradition of piano making and a remarkable supply of good specialists. With German management and Czech experts, a highly competent team has been formed there. With considerable investment, the site has been expanded into a well-equipped piano manufacturing facility.

Under the umbrella of the parent company C. BECHSTEIN, the German manufacturer of the high-end line, the C. Bechstein masterpieces, and the premium line BECHSTIEN, real values are created here in the Czech Republic: the two lines W.Hoffmann PROFESSIONAL and TRADITION, which are manufactured entirely here, as well as the VISION line, the entry-level range in the middle class with less vertical integration, designed for the global climate zones.

The German-Czech management of the power team in Hradec Králové is supported by the C.Bechstein development department, which develops all instruments and defines and monitors all specifications from material selection to processing. An investment of several million euros in expansion and technology over the last few years has created a level of production expertise to be proud of.
