The noblesse and perfection
piano maker exclusivity
C. Bechstein's most beautiful strings
Luminous gold tones in the bass range, bright silver in the mid and treble range: what looks so noble is the very highest quality. Powerful sound, tear-resistant, tone-forming.
The sounding strings for the lower registers - also known as bass strings - are wound by hand with copper. The starting material is the highest quality, extremely stress-resistant steel wire, manufactured according to C. Bechstein specifications.
The special rewinding process with high-purity copper wire requires perfect handling when guiding the copper wire. The rapidly rotating steel string must be held absolutely still with one hand during rewinding, while at the same time the copper wire is fed to the rewinding process with the other hand under an even tension. The tension on the copper wire must be neither too tight nor too soft, so that the copper does not become tense or too stiff, as the string would then no longer be able to vibrate freely with a round amplitude. On the other hand, a too loosely spun covering would cause rattling or rattling noises.
Pure luxury: At C. BECHSTEIN, the strings are made and wound by hand, not by machine. An excellently copper-wound string sounds more sonorous and produces an even richer, fuller tone. Only skillful and careful manual handling results in a perfectly round and colorful sounding bass string.
Agraffen - Sound amplifiers for the highest quality pianos
The strings of the C. Bechstein Concert class pianos are tensioned by the delicate agraffes. These metal guides serve to stabilize the strings. They also enhance the special tone color.
They guarantee a perfect string level, a clear limitation of the sounding string lengths and contribute significantly to the precision of the action. They support the precise impact of the hammers, which in turn enhances the fundamental tone and clarity of the sound quality.
Every last detail of a C. BECHSTEIN piano from the Concert series is of high quality and aesthetic appeal. Each perspective is a work of art in itself. Inside and out, every C. Bechstein piano is a piece of jewelry.
Exclusive hammerhead production in the C. Bechstein manufactory
C. BECHSTEIN is known for its uncompromising approach when it comes to optimizing upright and grand pianos. Into areas where no piano manufacturer in Europe has ventured before.
Hammer heads were previously purchased from suppliers.
Because no supplier can meet C. Bechstein's high quality standards, the company uses its own hammer heads from the Seifhennersdorf factory. C. After two years of intensive research and testing, Bechstein produces its own hammer heads in-house: an industry sensation!
With the original C. Bechstein hammerheads, Europe's largest upright and grand piano manufacturer sets a worldwide unique quality standard. In addition to the very sophisticated processing of the highest quality materials, the in-house production also allows constant and direct coordination with the voicers. The result is an audible refinement of quality in dynamics, volume and the spectrum of dynamic timbres.
The C. Bechstein hammer heads are made individually, brand- and model-specific, are optimized in shape and weight and have a C. Bechstein logo embossing. The top felt and blue C. Bechstein bottom felt come from the Wurzen felt factory.
The choice of wood for the hammer core is optimally matched to the sound ideals of each brand. For example, the hammer heads of C. Bechstein instruments in the Concert and Residence lines have a walnut hammer core, those in the Academy line have a mahogany hammer core and those in the W. Hoffmann instruments have a mahogany or maple hammer core, depending on the series.
After checking, i.e. playing the notes in the register, each hammer felt is worked with precisely placed pinpricks. Ultimately, the ideal balance between tension and elasticity is created and shaped. The result is a multi-faceted, elastic tonal dynamic and harmony in the register.
Metal for the impressive cast plate
Iron, liquefied at over 1,000 degrees, is poured into the filling holes of the model, which is molded in heavy sand, and cools to form the backbone of the masterpiece. The uniqueness of this traditional gray cast iron processing results in an extremely high carbon content, which gives the plate its bent, special tonal characteristics. One of many details that support the unique C. BECHSTEIN Concert sound experience.
The tone bell (exclusive to models B, C and D) is manufactured in the same way. Tone bell and cast iron plate are connected by a tension screw, the adjustment of which creates dynamics. This detail, which creates an additional partial tone range, contributes to the overall equisite expression of a C.BECHSTEIN Concert grand piano.
Unique competence centers

BECHSTEIN myth tells of the pure sound of fine instruments, of friendships with great pianists and wonderful hours at the piano in your own home.

The cast plate center uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure optimum plate processing. A new surface center also guarantees a flawless shine for the appearance of the precious instruments.
