Intonation & sound

The fine art of individual sound modification.

The hammerhead felts of your instrument will change over time depending on how much the piano player uses it, but also due to environmental influences such as excessive humidity.

These can condense or swell, which inevitably leads to the sound becoming either harder or softer, less nuanced and increasingly unbalanced.

And in the worst case, this will affect your enjoyment of the game.

Voicing is a matter of trust

When voicing, I change the sound character of your instrument by working on the hammerhead felts.

I use intonation needles to pierce the hammer felts precisely and optimize the sound of your upright or grand piano to suit your individual sensibilities and room.

Ultimately, the ideal balance between tension and elasticity is shaped and formed. This creates a multi-faceted, elastic tonal dynamic and, as a result, harmony in the register. Voicing is an art: craftsmanship, tonal judgment and a sensitive approach to the materials determine this work.

We will be happy to advise you in detail.

Yours, Alexander from Pianoart

Many years of experience & technical skills

The hammerhead felts are an essential part of the action and are decisive for the sound. During voicing, they are worked on precisely and accurately using voicing needles. It is therefore essential that you have this work carried out exclusively by experienced and qualified piano technicians.

We have many years of practical experience and use the latest tools. It is also a matter of course for us to constantly expand our knowledge and skills by exchanging experiences with internationally active experts and pianists, as well as through annual training courses.

Value retention and enjoyment through regular service

Just like piano tuning, intonation should be carried out at reasonable intervals to maintain the instrument.

We will be happy to draw up a service plan together with you.
