Location & care tips

Where is the right place for your piano?

Where you feel at home!

The room temperature should be between 20° and 22° Celsius. Of course, you can also keep the room cooler or warmer, ideally between 18° and 24° with a stable room temperature. In this case, it is also important to ensure that the humidity is suitable. The ideal value is between 45 % and 65 %. Very cold rooms below 10° and unheated storage rooms should be avoided at all costs. These can cause damage to your instrument and lead to loss of warranty and high repair costs.

However, the size of the room and acoustic conditions are also important when determining the location. Ideally, an upright piano should be placed a hand's width away from the wall and should have room to develop in terms of sound volume. Grand pianos, on the other hand, are deliberately placed in the middle of the room and the open lid ideally points into the room or towards the listeners.

As a piano house We work with you to find the right location and, if necessary, equip you with the appropriate aids, such as humidity meters, castors for moving, etc. And if you feel comfortable in the world of apps, we can find the most modern solution for determining the room.

You should pay attention to this:

  • Room temperature between 18° and 24°
  • A consistent indoor climate
  • Humidity between 45 % and 65 %
  • Minimum distance of 3 meters from open fires, fireplaces, stoves and ovens
  • Minimum distance of 1m from radiators
  • Regular ventilation is harmless
  • Avoid permanent draughts
  • Avoid cold and damp house walls as a back wall
  • No direct sunlight on the instrument
  • Avoid hypothermia below 10° and large temperature fluctuations
  • Underfloor heating - we will be happy to check for you
  • A stable room climate improves tuning and protects your piano

How do I look after my piano?

Our tips for the care of upright and grand piano surfaces

Always start by gently removing dust with a feather duster or a dry microfiber cloth. To remove fingerprints, we recommend using a soft cloth with a suitable cleaning agent.

Depending on the surface of the instrument, you may need special care products.

You can obtain these from us categorized by surface. And even if you are not sure, please contact us.

Cleaning "high-gloss polished" surfaces

The surfaces of our brand instruments are generally resistant. However, improper cleaning can still result in tiny scratches on the surface, even from dust and other particles.

Therefore, first remove dust etc. with a soft feather duster or a dry microfiber cloth and then remove all fingerprints with a soft cloth and the appropriate care product.

Cleaning "satinized" surfaces

Use as little moisture as possible, as this could lead to stains and the like. And also avoid pressing and rubbing too hard, as this could lead to shine.

Maintenance of buttons

For plastic buttons, please use a soft, lint-free cloth and a suitable cleaning agent. Natural buttons require special care.

Care of pedals

Simply polish with a soft cloth after cleaning the piano.

Cleaning and care of the inside of your upright and grand pianos

This is the responsibility of your piano tuner & specialist. To protect your instrument and maintain the warranty.

Always make sure that no vases, glasses, cups or bottles etc. are placed on your piano or grand piano. Liquids can easily be spilled. Quickly remove the accessible liquid with a soft cloth and inform us or your piano technician as soon as possible.
