Instruments with heart and soul

The Academy line uses slightly different materials. The basic machine production is supplemented by a large proportion of handcrafted work, especially in the area of sound design and playing style.

The successful combination of craftsmanship and a vision of the future. People and state-of-the-art technology in harmony.

Innovation paired with traditional methods! The intelligent interplay of technology, adapted use of materials and special working methods gently revolutionizes proven concepts.

The Academy line was initially developed for universities. Resilient, powerful sound, durable - this convinced the demanding ears and trained hands of teachers and students and conquered the international market. Manufactured in Germany by specialists with European ideas of sound and music, they represent a clear difference to products from the Far East.

ISO-certified: State-of-the-art CNC technology for the basic components of C. Bechstein grand and upright pianos ensures maximum precision and a reliable overall sound. Computer-controlled tools drill cast plates and insert pins into the wood more accurately than the human eye, and saw and mill bridges and bridges more precisely than the human hand.

The person breathes in the soul - right down to the intonation by hand and ear for a harmonious, balanced timbre across all registers!

Energy in harmony

More volume, interesting tonal results: The C. Bechstein Academy cast iron plate and duplex scales.

The material of the cast plate is special gray cast iron; the desired sound conduction velocity is taken into account for the solid Academy sound. The individual „topography“ of each plate is measured. High-precision computer-controlled tools drill and mill the workpiece until the specified support level for the sound strings and the perfect fit for the soundpost are achieved.

The principle for Capo dÀstro and Duplex produces even more overtone spectrum, clarity, precision and volume in the melodic treble, i.e. more tonal substance.

The duplex scales: The front and back lengths of the strings help shape the tone; at the same time, the energy cycle is optimized via the sound string.

A longer, very elastic attack and decay of the strings even allows the bridge to resonate. This excellent energy cycle achieves more tone colors, shades and dynamics and makes playing effortless, yet precise.

The front duplex scale provides an additional energy vector for volume increases, colors and additional partials built according to the player's wishes.

The rear duplex scale provides additional partials in the high treble as well as assertiveness, enlarges the sound spectrum with additional tonal and musical components and influences the timbre.

The choice of wood. The art of processing. The sum of the details makes an extraordinary result possible.

An Academy instrument needs plenty of time to rest and acclimatize.

The balanced sound quality is also due to the choice of materials. High-quality detent beams made of selected and finely finished pine wood are solidly connected to the detent and ensure that the cast iron plate is firmly anchored. The tension-supporting wood contributes to the singing Academy sound.

Soundboards made of high-quality European spruce wood, grown slowly in very high alpine locations, are dried under the most careful conditions and processed using special methods.

Music for the heart

The great class - yet classless. C. Bechstein Academy: the sound for professionals with great taste. The individual, the special musical profile, never average.

A sound for DJ Elbee Bad, pioneer of New York underground house music. His releases under various pseudonyms over the last 25 years are now legendary. „The Prince of Dance Music“ pushes the boundaries of musical experience with agility and non-conformism. Two years in the boys' chorus in the opera Carmen alongside Luciano Pavarotti at The Metropolitan Opera House (NYC) and his constant desire for musical novelty shine through in projects such as the P.O.D. Orchestra, with whom Elbee alternates live between mixing on the turntables and conducting a string quartet. Elbee Bad likes that special touch. He appreciates every key of C. Bechstein instruments.

The Gililov Quartet: The high art of chamber music demands the greatest mastery of the instruments in order to be free to respond to each other and to celebrate great works together masterfully. Musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and other international personalities often work on the Bechstein in this famous quartet. The highest standards of sound and personality, combined in this quartet.
